What is the difference between a valance and a tier?

Valances: We create a modern, tailored style valance as our standard. This casual look is often used in a kitchen or other areas in the home that have small windows. The valance is meant to hang at the top of the window, with or without the bottom tiers. They can also be combined with panels hanging to the side.

What are Cafe Curtains? Also known as tiers, these are the smaller pieces hung on the bottom half of the window and can be used with or without the valance. For very small windows, the tiers can be used to cover the entire opening. This style can also be used for the bathroom. They are sold as a pair.

Should I order lined or unlined? The choice is yours and very much a personal preference.
